Savuti – Untamed Wilderness in Botswana
In a remote corner of the southern Chobe National Park lies Savuti, a rugged and impressive natural area known for its pure, unspoiled character. Due to its distance from more visited areas, it is remarkably quiet here, making it an exclusive safari destination. The region is accessible via an adventurous 4×4 route or by bush plane, offering an in-depth safari experience far off the beaten path.
A Landscape Shaped
by Water and Drought
Savuti is characterized by changing landscapes – from open savannas to dry riverbeds – and an ecosystem that is constantly evolving. For centuries, a river flowed here that gave life to the area, but since the natural course of the water changed, the region has largely dried up. Nevertheless, the soil remains exceptionally fertile, allowing the area to be covered with nutritious grasses that attract many grazing animals.
Intense Wildlife
The concentration of wildlife in Savuti is high, partly due to several permanent water sources that attract animals year-round. Predators such as lions and hyenas are plentiful here, and the interactions between predator and prey are often spectacular. Savuti is famous for a unique behavior rarely seen elsewhere: groups of lions working together to hunt large prey, even elephants. Such impressive hunting scenes are regularly captured by international filmmakers.
Safari at its Purest
Savuti offers a safari as it is meant to be – rugged, quiet, and overwhelming. Game drives take you along open plains and ancient rock formations, in search of elephants, zebras, antelopes, and large predators. The chance of extraordinary encounters is high, and the lack of mass tourism ensures an authentic and personal experience.
