Practical information

TRAVEL & TRANSPORT

International flights: Via Johannesburg or Cape Town (South Africa), Windhoek (Namibia) or Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)

Domestic travel: Many travelers use fly-in safaris with small planes — fast, comfortable, and with beautiful views, an adventure in itself.

Land transfers: Smooth shuttle services on paved roads or by 4×4 on unpaved roads, to be decided together.

TIME & TIME DIFFERENCE

Botswana is in the same time zone as Belgium or the Netherlands (GMT+2) during our summer time and is 1 hour ahead of us during our winter time. No jet lag, therefore!

CLIMATE & BEST TRAVEL TIME

Dry season (May – October): cooler nights, perfect safari time — animals concentrate around water sources.

Green season (November – April): warm, with a chance of rain and many young animals and bird species.

HEALTH & VACCINATIONS

Travel circumstances are different for everyone and each person’s health condition varies. Therefore, discuss your trip during a travel consultation with your doctor or at a travel clinic, preferably no later than six to eight weeks before departure. More information for Belgians: www.wanda.be

Malaria occurs in parts of Botswana; contact your doctor for personal advice.

In all lodges or tent camps, you will receive bottled or filtered water; avoid unfiltered tap water

CLOTHING & LUGGAGE

Light, neutral clothing (beige, green, khaki) is ideal for safaris.

Evenings can cool down significantly, especially during Botswana’s winter months, and it can be quite chilly during morning safaris. It’s wise to dress in layers: a windbreaker is ideal during this period, and during the green season, a light rain jacket comes in handy. Also bring some long clothing for the evenings – this keeps you warm and protected against mosquitoes.

Don’t forget binoculars, a sun hat, sunscreen, and a headlamp.

For fly-in safaris, there is often a luggage limit of 20 kg, including hand luggage and camera bag. Only soft bags without reinforcement or wheels are allowed.

MONEY & PAYMENTS

In most cases, you won’t need money, except for tips or purchases. Credit cards are accepted in most accommodations.

CONNECTIVITY

Wi-Fi via Starlink in most camps or lodges

VISA & DOCUMENTS

For travelers from the EU, no visa is required for stays shorter than 90 days.

A passport is mandatory and must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.

Travelers with minor children, ask us for advice.

Which travel period?

Best time to travel to Botswana: when to go?
Botswana has a varied climate with dry winters and wet summers. The best travel time depends on what you want to see and experience. From spectacular safaris to green landscapes full of new life – each period has something unique.
Climate and seasons in Botswana
Botswana is located in the Southern Hemisphere, so the seasons are opposite to those in Belgium. The dry season runs from May to October, while the rainy season occurs between late November and March. Temperatures can vary from cool (around 10°C at night in June/July) to very hot (above 40°C in October/November).
Safari in the dry season (May – October)
This is the most popular time for a safari in Botswana. Wildlife concentrates around water sources, especially in the Okavango Delta, Chobe, and Savuti. The days are sunny and dry, and the chance of spotting animals is very high.
Traveling in the rainy season (late November – March)
During this period, Botswana becomes green and lively. Especially in the Makgadikgadi Pan and Nxai Pan, an impressive migration of hoofed animals takes place. Numerous winged summer guests also visit Botswana. The Okavango Delta fills with pelicans and herons, while Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan attract flamingos and waders. Rain usually falls in short, intense showers. Ideal for photographers and travelers looking for lower prices.
Our tip
• For green nature, tranquility, and lower prices: March to June.
• For abundant wildlife and dry safaris: choose May to September.
• Avoid October/November if you don’t handle heat well.
