Accommodation: Maun Studios (1 night)
After the flight, you land in Maun, the vibrant gateway town to the Okavango Delta. You are warmly welcomed and taken to Maun Studios, a small-scale accommodation with a peaceful atmosphere and green garden. As you enjoy your first drink in the African sun, you hear the whistle of the malachite kingfisher, the song of the masked weaver, and the soft cooing of the red-eyed dove. A quiet evening to settle into Botswana.
Accommodation: MmaTsebe Tented Camp (3 nights)
Transport: Bush plane from Maun Airport to Khwai Community Airstrip
After breakfast, you fly by bush plane to the remote MmaTsebe Tented Camp, a small-scale safari camp hidden among the waterways and grasslands of the Okavango Delta. Here, silence reigns – only broken by birdsong and the rustling of wind through the reeds.
In the morning or afternoon, you go on a jeep safari with your guide, searching for species such as the African jacana, the rare saddle-billed stork, the little bee-eater, and perhaps even the illustrious Pel’s fishing owl, one of the crown jewels of the Delta. A mokoro trip, a traditional canoe, is also a must-do here.
Sitatunga’s Edge – day trip full of bird happiness
One of the highlights of this stay is a day trip called Sitatunga’s Edge, a boat trip through an idyllic piece of marshland located in the Moremi Game Reserve on a double-decker pontoon boat – specially designed for photographers and bird enthusiasts.
From the elevated deck, you glide silently over the water as the sun turns the reeds golden. Here you often spot red-billed hornbill, grey-headed kingfisher, African pygmy goose, African darter, or the African openbill. The tranquility, the gentle lapping of the water, and the impressive bird diversity make this a day to remember.
Accommodation: Setari Camp (3 nights)
Transport: Bush plane from Khwai Community Airstrip to Jedibe Airstrip
A short flight takes you to Setari Camp, a comfortable, small-scale lodge on a private island in the Okavango. The camp is specially built on wooden walkways and elevated platforms, like one large treehouse in the middle of nature, so you can fully enjoy the impressive views over the Delta. Everywhere you hear the call of birds.
Your days are filled with boat safaris, mokoro trips, and quiet mornings on the camp’s deck. Here live goliath heron, African openbill, night heron, giant kingfisher, colorful bee-eaters and so much more. At sunset, the sky turns orange, and the mighty sound of the African fish eagle echoes over the water – a moment that remains etched in your memory.
Accommodation: Muchenje Safari Lodge (3 nights)
Transport: Bush plane from Jedibe Airstrip to Kasane Airport
You travel further by bush plane to the east, where the Chobe River winds through vast plains.
Muchenje Safari Lodge, situated high up with a view over the river, is a small-scale refuge with a spectacular panorama.
During boat safaris and game drives, you discover the richness of the Chobe: African skimmer, carmine bee-eater, kori bustard (national bird of Botswana) or the lilac-breasted roller. Besides birds, this is also a paradise for elephants, buffaloes, and hippos. In the evening, with a drink in hand and the call of night sounds around you, you feel the magic of wild Africa.
After a final early morning walk and a hearty breakfast, you bid farewell to Botswana. You travel to Kasane Airport for your return flight – with a memory card full of colorful birds, golden sunrises, and peaceful images of the Delta.
The total price is per person based on double occupancy.
